Transitioning cats to bird-and-cat-safe indoor lifestyle
Using on-site audits and expertise in landscape architecture, lighting, and wildlife conservation, we work with clients to create spaces supporting local fauna protecting biodiversity against growing environmental loss.
Our Services
Campus and residential bird-safe audits and plans
We work with homeowners, colleges, municpalties, and businesses on bird safe audits to understand the issues and develop concrete plans for addressing bird health
Native habitat landscaping and architecture
Comprehensive assessments of existing landscapes to identify opportunities for native plantings and insect-friendly microhabitats.
Community engagement
Bird friendly landscapes and buildings are increasingly appreciated for their beauty and health benefits. Birds by Design can work with you to communicate the benefits to the public and agencies.
Ecological restoration
Strategic landscape planning that supports biodiversity and offsets habitat loss through native plantings and wildlife corridors.
Bird-Safe window treatments
Over 1 billion birds die from window collisions in the U.S. each year. Most collisions are at residential homes and low-rise buildings. We work with homeowners and public and private institutions to recommend window treatment, coordinate installation, and build community support. In this work, we collaborate with WildlifeConservationSolution.org
Lighting audit and design for bird-friendly dark skies
We can work with you to develop a bird-friendly lighting plan for your home, office, campus, or landscape. Dark sky compliant lighting benefits birds by minimizing light pollution and window glare. Thoughtful architectural and landscape lighting is a creative way to make a place more sustainable and healthy for all.
